Joan West is a former college professor writing papers and articles for the academic press. She was also a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Collegiate Press. Prior to her academic work, West edited Woman Talk Magazine. Recognizing a need for agents, especially those who will consider the work of unpublished authors, she began her agency in the summer of 2005. By the beginning of 2006, the volume of queries and partial and full manuscripts that she received daily was overwhelming. Lois Bennett soon joined her agency and the two formed a partnership resulting in the Bennett and West Literary Agency. Currently the agency handles eighty plus clients in the areas of fiction and nonfiction. Bennett continues to write fiction and non-fiction for consumer magazines and is a weekly columnist for The Village Daily Sun.
