The Southeastern Center for Cooperative Learning (SCCL) is a faculty led professional development center at Florida Community College at Jacksonville that provides opportunities for college faculty to receive training, information, and support for creating and managing interactive teaching and learning in their classes. The SCCL’s theoretical and practical foundations were researched and developed by Roger and David Johnson of the Center for Cooperative Learning Center at the University of Minnesota. Our Cooperative Learning Seminars are sanctioned by their Center for Cooperative Learning.
The SCCL offers two 32 hour seminars a year to train faculty in the Foundations of Cooperative Learning and in Advanced Cooperative Learning. Our seminars are open to faculty from all colleges. The SCCL also offers a number of workshops each semester.
We are, as stated, a faculty led center. Click here to view a video of Nancy Eschen, mathematics professor, talking about how small groups, positive interdependence, and individual accountability are used in her math classes.
