Southeastern Center for Cooperative Learning

The Southeastern Center for Cooperative Learning (SCCL) is a faculty led professional development center at Florida Community College at Jacksonville that provides opportunities for college faculty to receive training, information, and support for creating and managing interactive teaching and learning in their classes. The SCCL’s theoretical and practical foundations were researched and developed by Roger and David Johnson of the Center for Cooperative Learning Center at the University of Minnesota. Our Cooperative Learning Seminars are sanctioned by their Center for Cooperative Learning.

The SCCL offers two 32 hour seminars a year to train faculty in the Foundations of Cooperative Learning and in Advanced Cooperative Learning. Our seminars are open to faculty from all colleges. The SCCL also offers a number of workshops each semester.

We are, as stated, a faculty led center. Click here to view a video of Nancy Eschen, mathematics professor, talking about how small groups, positive interdependence, and individual accountability are used in her math classes.

Please e-mail Faye Wisner for more information.

Spring term - Hybrid Cooperative Learning Foundations

Add a new tool to your instructional toolbox.  The Southeast Cooperative Learning Center will offer hybrid Cooperative Learning Foundations training Spring Term, 20092, over a seven week period.  In response to the needs of FCCJ faculty and their suggestions, the F2F portion will meet from 12:30-4:30 on Friday afternoons.  Participants will have assignments in between the F2F classes at the Downtown Campuses.

The classes will be over before Spring Break and the participants will still have time to practice the new skills for the rest of the term. Ric French and Faye Wisner will be co-instructors with other Cooperative Learning Trainers participating. The minimum number of students will be 8 – however, the more the merrier!  Encourage your colleagues to attend.

The schedule will be:
