FCCJ Biotechnology Programs of Study

This industry boasts varied opportunities for several distinct career paths. Scientific research as a lab technician, building and maintaining computer databases as an information technology professional and technically trained individuals that are prepared to take positions as biomedical equipment technicians or technical sales representatives – all of these are essential to the industry’s success. At Florida Community College we can prepare you for immediate employment.

The biotechnology programs are “hands-on” training for entry level positions as a technician in research and industrial laboratories. Scientific research as a lab technician includes DNA “finger printing,” cloning, DNA amplification, protein studies, cell culture, and analytical instrumentation. At Florida Community College we can prepare you for immediate employment in a leading edge research lab.

Internships

Internships are an important stepping-stone bridging academic preparation and real-world employment. Past FCCJ internships include running DNA sequencers, advanced microscopy equipment, novel drug purification and assisting in data analysis. Internships are usually during the last term after students are highly trained and ready to enter the workforce.
