The automotive and diesel technologies program at Florida Community College is one the most respected in the industry. We have close partnerships with automotive dealerships and business, as well as government, and community officials in Northeast Florida. General Motors has selected us to train its new service technicians through the Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP).
Today’s automobile is a complex combination of mechanical and computerized systems that operate together to ensure occupant safety and low emissions. Each year, new technology further enhances our cars and trucks. Features that were once “optional equipment” in higher end vehicles are now standard for every model. To keep up with evolving technology, automobile technicians need an aptitude for problem-solving and a commitment to continuous education. A high-paying future in this progressive business without a degree or certificate is virtually impossible.
Program graduates have excellent employment opportunities. Florida alone has a shortfall of nearly 40,000 qualified candidates. Many employment opportunities exist for those who wish to work while they complete their chosen program.
Coursework is certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Every instructor has, at minimum, a two-year degree, ASE certification, and three years of industry experience. Class sizes are limited to ensure individual classroom instruction and automotive lab training.
A choice of programs can lead to a two-year associate in science (A.S.) or associate in applied science (A.A.S.) degree, or one of several workforce certificates that can be completed in a few months to two years with exit points for specializations.
