Michael Brock – Heating
Ventilation, Air Conditioning and
Refrigeration Instructor
Following in his father’s
footsteps, Michael Brock began his
career in building maintenance, refrigeration,
air conditioning and electrical fields
during his youth in Northeast Georgia.
Mr. Brock gained extensive experience
in heating, ventilation, air conditioning
and refrigeration and building maintenance,
eventually becoming a highly sought
manager and consultant.
Currently, Mr. Brock is an active
Local Journeyman with a mechanical
and electrical license. In addition
to being nationally certified in
commercial A/C and refrigeration,
light commercial and A/C, and residential
A/C and heating, Mr. Brock is licensed
with the EPA in accordance with the
Federal Clean Air Act, Section 608
and 609.
Mr. Brock joined the College in
1991 after working in the field for
more than 20 years. Among the many
topics he covers with students in
the classroom, laboratory and field
are: heating, ventilating, air conditioning,
refrigeration, electrical, EPA certification,
continuing workforce, the A.A.S.
degree, and journeyman preparatory
and CWE classes for contractors.
Mr. Brock currently upholds the highest
ethical standards in his classroom.
General competency and professional
responsibility remain a primary component
of his educational program.
Jun Bucasas – Tool
Room Manager
Jun Bucasas was born and raised
in the Philippines where, at age
20, he joined the United States Navy
and served as a jet aircraft mechanic.
During his military career he was
stationed at a number of different
bases throughout the United States
including Mayport, NAS Cecil Field
and NAS Jacksonville. After retiring
from his Naval post, Mr. Bucasas
joined the FCCJ staff in 1993 and
obtained several certifications including
carpentry, auto body repair and auto
machining.
Currently Mr. Bucasas is the manager
for the Building Trades Tool Room.
In this role he maintains the inventory
for all materials and supplies required
for FCCJ’s building trades
and construction management programs
as well as manages inventory requisitions
and a wide variety of equipment repairs.
Kenny
Evelyn – Electricity
Instructor
Having begun his study of the electrician
trade as a child in Tobago, Kenny
Evelyn has more than 60 years experience.
This originated with hands-on training
under the guidance of his father
and continued through the acquisition
of a Master Electrician and Journeyman
Certificate during an apprenticeship
in Boston, Massachusetts.
Following a stint as an electrician
in Broward County where he was certified
as a journeyman, Mr. Evelyn relocated
to Jacksonville in 1989 to provide
construction electricity instruction
at Randolph High School. During this
same time, he took an adjunct instructor
position for Florida Community College
in the evening and, in 2000, joined
the College as a full time instructor.
Ken
Hyde – Welding Instructor
Ken Hyde was raised in Mississippi
and Indiana then, in 1952, joined
the Navy. During his military career
he became a Hull Maintenance Technician
and was stationed in a number of
different places. His work provided
him extensive experience in welding
doing such things as hull repair
and pipefitting and, on his last
commands of duty, Mr. Hyde served
as Repair Division Officer and Command
Master Chief.
After retiring from the Navy in
1979, Mr. Hyde became a Welding Foreman
at InMar Machine, followed by a Superintendent
for a Metal Fabricator.
Mr. Hyde, who holds a Certificate
in High Pressure Pipe Welding, began
sharing his knowledge in welding
as an adjunct faculty member for
FCCJ in 1980 while doing free-lance
contract welding work. He then took
an assistant professorship at Brunswick
College for five years until 1993,
when he joined the FCCJ faculty full-time.
Patrick
Land – Computer-Aid
Drafting Instructor
Born and raised in Pensacola, Florida,
Patrick Land attended University
of West Florida and earned a Bachelor
of Science in Industrial Technology
followed by a Master of Science in
Technology Management from Eastern
Illinois University, where he also
was a graduate teaching assistant.
Before and after graduate school,
Mr. Land had worked in a variety
of jobs, including quality manager
for Polyfoam Packers Corporation
in Effingham, Illinois and manufacturing
engineer for Flint Cliffs Manufacturing
in Burlington, Iowa. Patrick also
taught CAD classes at Sauk Valley
Community College and Carl Sandburg
College, both in Illinois.
Mr. Land joined Florida Community
College in 2002. He currently teaches
CAD and engineering courses for the
Architectural Design and Drafting,
Building Construction Technology,
Civil Engineering Technology, and
the Drafting and Design Technology
degree programs. In his spare time,
Mr. Land works as an independent
contractor and consultant developing
CAD training programs, producing
working drawings and doing CNC programming
for milling machines, turret presses,
plasma cutters and more. Mr. Land
is also ISO 9000 certified and is
proficient in a variety of programming
languages and software applications.
Michael
Orender – Heating,
Ventilation, Air Conditioning and
Refrigeration Instructor
Born in a small town outside of
Little Rock, Arkansas, Michael Orender
grew up a “Navy Brat,” relocating
regularly with his family throughout
the United States until finally establishing
permanent residence in the Jacksonville
area in 1972.
After graduating from Orange Park
High School in 1975, Mr. Orender
gravitated towards the mechanical
professions and assumed several positions
with Heating and Air Conditioning
Companies. He holds a Journeyman’s
Electrician Certificate as well as
a Mechanical Contractor’s License
for the state of Florida.
Mr. Orender has been an instructor
for FCCJ since 1993 and recently
established his own company, Orenders
Heating and Air Conditioning. In
his spare time, Mr. Orender enjoys
fishing and playing guitar in a local
band.
Robert Rivers – Carpentry
and Building Trades Instructor
Robert Rivers was born and raised
in Perry, Florida. He is a skilled
craftsman, holding a Certification
in Carpentry earned through an apprenticeship
program offered by Local Carpenters
Union 627. Over the years, Mr. Rivers
has had extensive experience in Carpentry,
working with the Local 627. He joined
FCCJ as an instructor in 1975 and
has been a pivotal part of the building
trades program ever since.
Timothy
Sinclair – Engineering
Instructor
S. Timothy Sinclair has been Professor
of Engineering Technology at Florida
Community College for the past 25
years. He was born in Augusta, Georgia,
but raised in Jacksonville. Mr. Sinclair
received his bachelor’s degree
from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical
State University in Greensboro, and
holds a Master of Education Degree
from the University of North Florida.
He is a member of Kappa Delta Pi
National Honor Society in Education
and the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity,
Inc.
Mr. Sinclair has been president
of the Jacksonville Camera Club and
is past regional coordinator for
the State of Florida in the “Reach
Out and Read” national literacy
program. He is a Thirty-third Degree
(33°) Mason and a life member
of International Free & Accepted
Modern Mason Inc. In 1996, Mr. Sinclair
was featured in the book “Who’s
Who in Freemasonry.” He is
also the North Florida secretary
for Quatuor Coronati Correspondence
Circle Ltd. in London, the premier
lodge of Masonic research.
