
High School Completion and Adult Literacy
Perhaps you didnt make it all the way through
high school, but now youre ready to come back. Florida Community
College can help you fulfill your educational goals of returning
to school. The adult
education department of FCCJ has programs which give our members
the opportunity to learn the basic and academic skills necessary
for todays workforce.
Students who enroll in classes held on one of
our four campuses should fill out a membership
application and pay the $15 membership fee. Adult education courses are also offered at various locations throughout the community.

Florida Community Colleges adult education department offers several
programs. Which one may be right for you?
Our GED program offers students the opportunity
to obtain the necessary skills required to successfully complete
the GED test and earn a state high school equivalency diploma.
Students entering the program will be tested to determine program
placement prior to registration.
NOTE: According
to state statutes, students age 16 or 17 may enroll in GED classes,
but are not allowed to take the GED exam without special permission.
Applicants 18 years or older seeking admittance
into the GED program must submit the following:
- Completed membership application, including
social security number
- Citizenship verification (Applicants must
be citizens of the United States or resident aliens. If applicants
are not U.S. citizens or resident aliens, Florida Community College requires papers
issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to determine
eligibility for admission.)
Applicants 16 or 17 years old seeking admittance
into the GED program must submit the following:
- Completed membership application, including
social security number
- Citizenship verification (Applicants must
be citizens of the United States or resident aliens. If applicants
are not U.S. citizens or resident aliens, FCCJ requires papers
issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to determine
eligibility for admission.)
- Confirmation from all high schools attended
that the individual has not committed any of the following offenses:
- Distribution of drugs
- Simple battery upon school employees
or agents
- Robbery
- Extortion
- Burglary of school property
- Criminal mischief or vandalism
- Possession of weapons or dangerous objects
- Indecent public conduct
- Battery upon another student resulting
in bodily harm
- Inciting or participating in a major
student disorder
- Commission of any felony

The adult high school program provides the opportunity
for individuals 18 or older to earn a high school diploma.
All applicants wishing to pursue a Florida Community College high school diploma must
have withdrawn from public or private high school. Students entering
the program will be tested to determine program placement prior
to registration.
STATUS A - 18 YEARS OLD
Applicants 18 years and older will be admitted
to the Colleges high school completion program to seek an adult
high school diploma by submitting the following:
- Completed membership application including
social security number
- Proof of previous education (Applicants may
transfer credits earned from grades nine through 12 and be placed
into appropriate courses to meet the credit requirements for
graduation. Official transcripts, grades earned and other documents
can be submitted for specific course placement.)
- Citizenship verification (Applicants must
be citizens of the United States or resident aliens. If applicants
are not U.S. citizens or resident aliens, FCCJ requires papers
issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to determine
eligibility for admission.)
STATUS B - 18 YEARS OLD
Students who will transfer credit to the high
school in which they are enrolled must submit the following:
- A completed membership application including
social security number
- Permission letter (A letter on letterhead
stationery from the principal or counselor of the high school
to which the student desires to transfer credit is required
each time an applicant enrolls. The letter should indicate which
course(s) are approved for transfer credit and the deadline
for completion of the transfer credit.)
STATUS C -
Students who are already high school graduates
but who need credit for a specific reason (e.g., seeking admission
to the Colleges nursing program but lack a chemistry credit) must submit
the following:
- A completed membership application for admission
including social security number
- Course fees (Students must pay fees for courses
taken.)
Our adult basic education program is
designed to improve the employability of students through basic
skills instruction in reading, writing and math, as well as workforce
readiness skills. Students entering the program will be tested
to determine program placement prior to registration.
Applicants 18 years or older seeking admittance
into the adult basic education program must submit the following:
- Completed membership application including
social security number
- Citizenship verification (Applicants must
be citizens of the United States or resident aliens. If applicants
are not U.S. citizens or resident aliens, the College requires papers
issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service to determine
eligibility for admission.)
Applicants 16 or 17 years old seeking
admittance into the adult basic education program must submit

The adult education non-credit ESOL
program offers classes for community residents whose native
language is not English and who want to learn and improve their
English language skills, especially in preparation for better
employment.
To enroll in ESOL classes, you will need
to take the CASAS Placement Test before registering. The CASAS
test is given every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9 a.m. The
test will last 5 hours. For information on registering and testing,
