Florida Community College to celebrate Constitution Day with class

Florida Community College to celebrate Constitution Day with class Students and Faculty at Florida Community College will mark Constitution Day (which falls on Sept. 17) with classroom and assembly events designed to inform and entertain students while celebrating our nation’s Constitution during the week of Sept. 17.

Downtown Campus On Sept. 17, Constitution Day, History Professor Steve Piscitelli will lead an interactive lecture on our rights and responsibilities as the holders of the Constitution and what it stands for. Free and open to the public, meeting 10–11:15 a.m. in Room A-1068.

Deerwood Center is hosting Constitution Day activities Sept. 17 from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Students will play “Constitution Jeopardy.” A “Banned Book” display will provide insight into what some people read that others disapprove of. The public is invited to attend a “Cyber-safety” presentation by Chief of Law Enforcement for the Child Predator Cyber Crime Unit, Chuck McMullen. Meeting from 12:30–1:30 p.m., this presentation will reveal some of the vulnerabilities and dangers of online communities such as MySpace and Facebook.

South Campus will host a discussion of the Constitution and the Senate led by professors Marcella Washington and Joann Carpenter. Representatives from the offices of Senator Bill Nelson and Senator Mel Martinez have been invited to participate, Sept. 17 in the Wilson center Lakeside Room, 10–11 a.m.

Kent Campus students will Constitution Day celebrate with events occurring three days. On Sept. 17 and 18 at 11 a.m. students will participate in “Constitution Jeopardy” in the Student Center, Bldg. G. On Sept. 19 at 11 a.m. Garrett Dennis from the Supervisor of Elections Office will present “Why YOU Should Vote!” in the Auditorium, Bldg. F.

Open Campus Distance Learning gets into the act by offering two programs on Comcast Cable Channel 26. “Inventing a Nation” airs at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.; “Searching for Stability” airs at 10:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.
