Arts spring to life in April at Florida Community College South Campus
As Spring Semester winds down, Florida Community College students gear up to show off their talents.
Three free concerts and a free art reception and show by students of performance and visual arts are open to the public at
the Nathan H. Wilson Center for the Arts, South Campus, 11901 Beach Blvd.
The Florida Community College at Jacksonville Chorale, with the Mens and Womens Chamber
Choirs, will present “I Wanna Be Ready” on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. Special guest soloist is soprano Paulette
Votava Resch of the internationally renowned Kansas City Chorale. Under the direction of Wayne Bailey, the concert offers
selections ranging from classical to folksongs and spirituals.
The annual Florida Community College Jazz Festival takes place April 22 at 8 p.m. The Jazz Ensemble,
under direction of Matt Vance, has a tradition of award-winning excellence, and notable graduates of the Jazz Studies
program have moved on to play professionally or in other programs. A variety of local jazz bands participate in this free
evening at the Wilson Center Main Stage.
The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Paul Weikle, will also offer a variety of selections from
classical to marches in their grand finale concert April 27 at 7:30 p.m., Wilson Center Main Stage.
Also on April 27, the Annual Student Art Reception and Show gives a chance to meet student artists and
view their works, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Wilson Center Art Gallery.
