Kent Campus Legal Studies cosponsors Law Day seminar, luncheon May 5

The Northeast Florida Paralegal Association and Florida Community College’s Legal Studies Institute will sponsor the Second Annual Law Day seminar and luncheon on May 5 from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the College’s Kent Campus.

The seminar is being offered for $125, which includes admission, materials, lunch and refreshments. A one-time $15 membership fee applies for new students.

This Law Week event, with the theme Liberty Under Law: Separate Branches, Separate Powers, celebrates the contributions of, and is appropriate for, all legal professionals. This includes attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants and secretaries, accountants, administrators, managers and all other support staff positions.

The seminar has been approved by the Certifying Board for the National Association of Legal Assistants for an award of five hours of continuing legal assistant education credit required to maintain the CLA/CP credential.

Keynote Speaker is Henry M. Coxe III, Esq., president-elect of the Florida Bar Association. Coxe served as president of the Jacksonville Bar Association and chairman of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

Also addressing seminar attendees will be Jeff Hess, professor of Speech Communication; Andrea Giggetts, president and CEO, Giggetts and Associates; Susan S. Demers, Esq., director of Paralegal Studies, St. Petersburg College; and Paul Consbruck, Esq., vice president, Merit Consulting Inc. A panel discussion featuring Jacksonville legal professionals will address the seminar’s theme.

Florida Community College offers an associate in science and an associate in applied science degree in Legal Assisting. The programs are appropriate for those who want to work as paraprofessionals in the legal or criminal justice fields. This Legal Assisting program is the only such program in North Florida approved by the American Bar Association.

A Legal Secretary program is also offered at Kent Campus. This certificate program prepares students who want to work in the highly specialized legal field.

Kent Campus is located at 3939 Roosevelt Blvd. To register for the seminar or for more information, call 904.381.3589.
