Selected admissions underway for gifted math/algebra high-school juniors and seniors for free FCCJ summer Aviation Math Camp

What:	Soaring Scholars Aviation Math Camp Free (grant-funded) summer camp with select admissions for students meeting all of the following requirements: Participants must be gifted high-school math students who will be juniors and seniors in 2006-2007 (presently sophomores and juniors) Students must have verifiable financial need Requires College Placement Testing, math skills assessment testing and teacher/counselor recommendation
When:	Camp dates: June 5-30 Applications due: ASAP
Where:	Florida Community College Aviation Center of Excellence 13450 Lake Fretwell St. Cecil Commerce Center
Cost:	Free tuition for qualifying students

Details: The award of a Florida Department of Education grant is providing an opportunity for gifted students, going into grades 11 or 12 in Fall 2006 and demonstrating socioeconomic need, to enroll in a month-long summer camp at no cost for tuition or books. “Soaring Scholars Aviation Camp” is a college-level algebra camp that applies algebra to real-life situations. An intense focus on aviation skills and development includes:

• Navigation, fuel consumption and flight physics
• Rocket science (models) and glider construction
• Flight simulation, field trips to Kennedy Space Center and IMAX Theatre
• Cross-country flight experience
