Kent Campus offers free viewings of “Dare Not Walk Alone,” local filmmaker’s civil rights documentary

Florida Community College at Jacksonville’s Kent Campus is offering two opportunities to view “Dare Not Walk Alone: The War of Responsibility,” local filmmaker Jeremy Dean’s documentary detailing June 1964 activities of the civil rights movement in St. Augustine. Screenings are Monday, April 10 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, April 11 at 12:30 p.m., in room F-128. Dean is scheduled to attend the screenings.

The screenings are free and open to the public.

In 1964, the civil rights movement had succeeded in the drafting of the Civil Rights Bill, but it had stalled due to filibustering. On June 18, a St. Augustine motel owner poured muriatic acid into his motel pool, which was filled with demonstrators against segregation. Bedlam ensued and the reports shook the nation. The following day, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed in the U.S. Senate.

Kent Campus is located at 3939 Roosevelt Blvd. For more information call 904.646.2300.
