In 1964, the civil rights movement had succeeded in the drafting of the Civil Rights Bill, but it had
stalled due to filibustering. On June 18, a St. Augustine motel owner poured muriatic acid into his motel pool, which was
filled with demonstrators against segregation. Bedlam ensued and the reports shook the nation. The following day, the
Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed in the U.S. Senate.
Kent Campus is located at 3939 Roosevelt Blvd. For more information call 904.646.2300.
