Florida Community College garners two leadership awards from Northeast Florida Regional Council
The Northeast Florida Regional Council honored Florida Community College at Jacksonville twice in one
evening, when it presented both the College and one of its professional staff with leadership awards at the Third Annual
Elected Officials Reception in November. The awards recognize contributions to the livability and quality of life in
Northeast Florida, in concert with NEFRC programs and projects.
Milton Russos, Ph.D., was awarded the 2005 Regional Quality of Life Award. Criteria for the award
include involvement in activities that address social, human, educational and/or cultural issues; and significantly impact
and involve residents. Russos, executive director of Cultural Programs at the College, has been director of the FCCJ Artist
Series since its inception. Now in its 40th season, the FCCJ Artist Series is the primary source for professional
entertainment in Northeast Florida.
The Regional Excellence in Education Award was awarded to Florida Community College at Jacksonville.
Criteria for the award include service to citizens and students; development of programs that serve the region; educational
response to issues; exemplary use of education to foster lifelong learning; and the ability to arouse curiosity, stimulate
independent learning and develop critical thought. The award was accepted by Emily Smith, chair of the College's District
Board of Trustees, representing the College.
