Six Florida Community College students named to All-Florida Academic Team
Members are considered nominees to the All-USA Academic Team

Six Florida Community College at Jacksonville student were among the 108 students named to 2005 All-Florida Academic Team. Commissioner of Education John L. Winn and Community College Chancellor J. David Armstrong, Jr., will announce the 2005 Community College All-Florida Academic Team March 30 in Tallahassee.

The program honors public and private community college students for their academic excellence and leadership. The members are also nominees to the USA Today-sponsored All-USA Academic Team for Community and Junior Colleges, and eligible for additional scholarships and awards.

Florida Community College members include Melissa Bright and Michelle Jones from South Campus; Douglas Doane and Vladimir Duovis from Open Campus; and Steve Miller and Charity Wilkerson from Kent Campus.

Nomination criteria included participation in honors programs and membership in honors organizations, and awards and honors received. A rigorous application process includes letters of recommendation from faculty, administrators and mentors.

(Media note: Steven Miller is also a recipient of the President’s Volunteer Service Award. He logged 720 volunteer hours in 2004, and received his award from President George W. Bush in January. See more about Miller’s award.
