U.S. Labor Secretary Chao to tour North Campus Nursing dept. May 3
Press conference will explain benefits of new overtime security rules for LPNs

United States Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao will stop at Florida Community College’s North Campus on Monday, May 3, for a tour of the Nursing Department at 11:15 a.m., followed by a press conference at 11:30. The Secretary is embarking on a tour to publicize the new rules, which strengthen and guarantee overtime pay protection for millions of workers. Licensed practical nurses are the focus of this stop in Jacksonville, as a category of worker for whom the rules clarify their eligibility for overtime pay.

Secretary Chao will meet with College administrators briefly upon arrival, and then tour the Nursing department and meet some of the nursing students. A press conference explaining the new rules and how the rules will benefit LPNs will take place in the Mallard Room, followed by a brief question and answer session. Secretary Chao will depart at noon.

The Department of Labor news release regarding the new rules may be found at http://www.dol.gov/opa/media/press/esa/ESA2004780.htm.

Media Note:

Members of the media are requested to arrive prior to 11 a.m. (for security purposes). Parking for media will be reserved in the visitors’ parking lot by Building C at the back of the campus. Guests including media are invited to accompany the Secretary on the tour.

North Campus is located at 4501 Capper Road.
