
Homeowners can save time and money this summer with idea-filled home improvement courses offered by Florida Community College Continuing Education at FCCJ South Campus, 11901 Beach Blvd.
Landscape Design for the Homeowner teaches students how to design a customized landscape plan that incorporates native plants, outdoor living spaces, walkways, hedges, flowerbeds, water features, trees and patios. Taught by a professional horticulturist, this course meets on Mondays, May 17 – June 21, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuition is $95 and includes a textbook. Spouse may attend free.
Decorative Wall Finishes gives students the skills to create faux finish effects on walls, furniture and other surfaces using paints, glazes, stencils, design patterns and various application tools. Class is held on Saturday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $79 plus materials fee.
Grass Is Always Greener: Year-round Yard Maintenance meets on Wednesdays, May 26 – June 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. This class gives students valuable information on selecting low-maintenance plants that thrive in North Florida’s climate. A planting calendar along with tips on how to control pests and weeds without harming the environment will be shared. The cost is $35.
Wake Up Your Walls With Color provides a step-by-step approach for creating stone effects, aged looks, patterns and surface textures. Students learn which colors, paints, glazes and texture applications work best in a variety of decorative settings. Class meets Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $79 plus materials fee.
