
This summer, Florida Community College Continuing Education is offering several courses that give students practical culinary skills that can be put to use in a variety of small business ventures.
From Vine to Wine, an ideal course for aspiring wine connoisseurs and those in the food service business, examines the wine making process and provides tips for reading labels, identifying wine characteristics and selecting wines to complement a menu. Students must be at least 21 years old. Class meets on Wednesdays, May 26 – July 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. at FCCJ Deerwood Center, 9911 Old Baymeadows Rd. Tuition is $75 plus a $15 tasting fee.
Wedding Cake Creations teaches students how to create exquisite wedding cakes on a budget. Topics include: tried-and-true cake recipes and baking tips; filling a cake; stacking and pillars; fancy decorating techniques; transporting the cake; and display ideas. Class meets on Tuesdays, May 18 – June 8 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. at FCCJ South Campus, 11901 Beach Blvd. Tuition is $55.
Creative Cakes: Decorating Made Easy will be held on Tuesdays, June 15 – July 6 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. at FCCJ South Campus. Students will learn how to create and decorate specialty cakes with colored icing, flowers, stars, basket weave, piping and more. Cost for the class is $55.
