The Highwaymen were a group of African-American artists of the 1950s-1960s. They earned their nickname
because of their inclination to travel the highways of central and south Florida selling their boldly colored, rapidly painted
landscapes along the roadside, some of them even into the 1980s. Paintings that sold for $25 then may be valued at thousands of
dollars as critics and collectors recognize their skills as painters and their importance as recorders of Florida’s history,
culture and natural beauty. Artist R. L. Lewis Jr’s works will be featured in this exhibit. Call 904.633.8210 for more information.
