Florida Community College presents “El Norte,” film depicting illegal immigrants
Immigration, oppression, disillusionment often tied together as dreams fall apart

What: “El Norte” (The North)
1983 film depicting the plight of illegal immigrants; what prompts them to leave their homelands; what greets them when they arrive. In Spanish with English subtitles.
When: Monday, March 8, 5:30 p.m.
Where: Florida Community College Deerwood Center
9911 Old Baymeadows Road, Room B-1204
Cost: FREE and open to the public
Details: An annual occasion at the College is the presentation of Spanish literature, culture and politics. Offered for 2004: A presentation of the 1983 film “El Norte;” followed by a discussion of immigration, illegal immigrants, oppression of the Hispanic poor in their homelands and in the North, or U.S.A. Guest speakers include informed professionals and politicians involved in the field of immigration. Presented and facilitated by Professor Enrique Barquinero and Professor Mirta Zidovec of the College’s Department of Foreign Languages.
