Nassau Joint-Use Technical Career Center budget and architect approved
The Florida Community College District Board of Trustees approved
a budget and an architect for the Nassau Joint Technical Career
Center at their December 2 meeting held at the Betty P. Cook
Nassau Center. The action authorized College administration
to negotiate and enter into a contract with Smith-McCrary Architects.
The architectural firm will be responsible for the architectural,
engineering, and construction administration services for the
Career Center. Also approved was the $9,540,836 budget, including
expenditure of the previously received $884,078 for planning
and development.
The Nassau County School Board and Florida Community College
are jointly developing the Technical Career Center to expand
career and technical training opportunities for the district's
high school students and adult residents. The facility will
be centrally located in Yulee at the Betty P. Cook Nassau Center.
Florida statute provides for 25 percent of the funding for
joint-use projects. Florida Community College and the School
District are to provide the balance of the funding. The College's
Board of Trustees previously approved the funding plan for
their $3,246,285 commitment to the project. The Nassau County
School Board is expected to take action on their funding plan
in the first quarter of 2004.
