Free concerts help ring in the holidays at Florida Community College
South Campus offers Wind Band classics Dec. 4; Chorale holiday treats Dec. 5

Florida Community College’s South Campus is offering two concerts, free and open to the public, to add to the list of holiday fun and fanfare.

The Florida Community College Symphonic Band struts its stuff Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. with a “Concert of Wind Band Classics.” Included in the program is “The Florida Times-Union March,” composed by Dr. Dale Blackwell. This piece debuted in May 2002. Here’s a chance for audiences to catch it if they missed it first time around. The Symphonic Band is conducted by Paul Weikle.

The FCCJ Chorale (Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus) will present “The Sounds of the Season” on Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. Special guests will be the First Coast High School Chamber Singers, directed by John Larsen. The FCCJ Chorale is directed by Wayne Bailey.

Both concerts will be held at the South Campus’ Wilson Center for the Arts, located at 11901 Beach Blvd., east of St. Johns Bluff Road. For more information call the Wilson Center at 904.646.2222.
