Pathways Academy sets out to double enrollment; gains strong support from DCPS and highest SACS accreditation possible

Pathways Academy, the charter high school at Florida Community College’s Downtown Campus, is currently enrolling students for Fall 2009. Its goal is to enroll 300 students, twice the enrollment of the previous academic year. To help accommodate the growth, enhancements will include increased faculty; a more-technology-driven curriculum; expanded mentoring, role-models for students and job-shadowing opportunities; increased Dual Enrollment and career exploration opportunities; and greater access to student activities, including sports.

Pathways was recently awarded a 10-year contract from Duval County Public Schools. In addition, Pathways was recently recommended for a five-year SACS CASI Accreditation term, the longest possible, after being reviewed with commendations (pending formal notification).

A high school specifically for dropouts between the ages of 16-20, Pathways is designed to deliver academic, career, character and life-skills instruction in a simultaneous secondary and postsecondary environment.

This program is offered at no cost to students. Comprehensive case-management services, individualized attention, career development and innovative curricula will lead students on the path to a high-school diploma. Enrollment steps include completing an application, taking an academic-skills assessment and attending orientation sessions.

Ongoing enrollment is available Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the FCCJ Downtown Campus, Bldg. A, third floor Suite 3001A. Pathways Academy is also holding special Saturday enrollment sessions on July 11, August 8 and August 15. This is an opportunity for applicants to complete all admissions requirements in one day. Interested applicants and their parents should report to Downtown Campus Bldg. A, third floor, west wing. The academic skills assessment will be administered at 9 a.m. Orientation begins at 11 a.m. in the same location. Students should bring with them a state-issued photo ID or driver license (actual) and their signed Social Security card (or copy).

Visit www.pathwaysacademy.net or call Pathways Academy at 904.633.8125 for more information on regularly scheduled enrollment and orientation opportunities, or the Saturday open enrollment sessions. Downtown Campus is located at 101 W. State St.
