Nancy J. Cooley, Ph.D., appointed Florida Community College Jacksonville Open Campus president
Vice provost for distance learning at Old Dominion University will lead Virtual College

The District Board of Trustees of Florida Community College at Jacksonville has approved the appointment of Nancy J. Cooley, Ph.D., to serve as Open Campus president and interim provost. Cooley’s appointment will become effective on June 22, 2009.

As Open Campus president, Cooley will oversee Virtual College, FCCJ’s distance learning programs, which are the fastest growing at the College; computer classes for professional development and self-enrichment; an assessment center which offers pre-employment assessments; IT licensing and certification testing. Cooley will also have additional responsibilities relative to baccalaureate degree program coordination.

Cooley is currently vice provost for distance learning at Old Dominion University in Virginia, a post she has held since 2005. Her previous employers include the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, where she served as director of academic affairs and planning/acting executive director; Ferris State University in Michigan, dean, College of Education and Human Services; Central Michigan University, interim assistant vice provost for academic and professional advancement; department chair and professor.

Cooley holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Michigan University. She has a Master of Arts in Teaching, Learning Disabilities from Oakland University (Michigan) and earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching and Psychological Studies from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor). She will report to College President Steven R. Wallace.
