April marks first Sexual Assault Awareness Month at Florida Community College Kent Campus

What: Inaugural Sexual Assault Awareness Month
When:

April 2008

Where:

Florida Community College Kent Campus
3939 Roosevelt Blvd.

Cost: Free and open to the public

Details: As part of their service learning project under the direction of FCCJ Student Learning Specialist Kristy Synnott, student volunteers will provide a series of events for faculty, students, administrators and community partners to gain a better understanding how sexual assault affects the community and learn ways to increase awareness and prevent sexual violence. Scheduled events include a candlelight vigil, guest speakers, poetry readings and presentations on campus safety. As part of their course requirements, Florida Community College students gain hands-on service learning experience, providing assistance to the needs of the community. The service learning comes in varied experiences. Florida Community College students will do the service and applied research in all three areas and are required to make presentations and write papers on lessons learned. For more information about Crime Victim Rights Week and Sexual Assault Awareness Month Observance or Learning Community projects at FCCJ Kent Campus, contact Kristy Synnott at 904.381.3584.
