Florida Community College Continuing Education offers foreign language courses for business and pleasure

Business professionals and leisure travelers have found language classes offered by Florida Community College to be beneficial for job enhancement and for traveling abroad. Traditional and online classes are available through FCCJ Open Campus Continuing Education.

“Everyday Spanish” teaches handy phrases, commands and expressions that are useful for most situations when traveling, such as eating in a restaurant and shopping. This introductory level class meets daytime on Wednesdays, Jan. 25-March 1, 10 a.m. to noon at FCCJ South Campus. Cost for the class is $55.

“Speaking Spanish Level I” meets on Tuesdays, Jan. 24-Mar. 14, at the FCCJ South Campus (11901 Beach Blvd.). Two classes are scheduled; 5 to 7 p.m. and 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. In this introductory course, students learn names, objects, formal and informal greetings, numbers, times and days. Oral and written expression will be emphasized along with basic grammar and spelling. Tuition is $95.

“Italian Ciao!” will introduce students to grammar, pronunciation and useful Italian expressions for ordering from a menu, shopping and getting around Italy. The class meets on Thursdays, Jan. 26-Mar. 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at FCCJ South Campus. Cost for the class is $55.

Online classes include Conversational French, Speed Spanish I, II and III, and Instant Italian. Students learn language basics through the use of simple phonetic spellings and online audio clips. Cultural tips are provided during each of the twelve lessons. Access to the online classroom is available 24 hours a day for six weeks. Classes are offered monthly beginning in January. Tuition is $79.
