Adjunct Faculty Bio
Jeffrey Quixley
My educational background includes a Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.), Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, (B.A.), and Master of Science in Human Services with a specialization in Criminal Justice (M.S.). I have cultivated and enriched my knowledge of legal studies and the social sciences (i.e. criminal justice and political science) as an adjunct instructor at colleges and universities including, but not limited to, Fairleigh Dickinson University, William Paterson University, Ramapo College of NJ and Florida Community College at Jacksonville. Additionally, my former role as council president for the Borough of Bradley Beach, NJ was extremely educational as I developed relationships with various law enforcement officials and human service practitioners. My legal, social and political experiences are “first-hand.”
Further, during the 1990s as director and managing attorney for a major insurance company, my responsibilities included asset protection including security measures to protect the company from tangible or intangible losses with respect to intellectual property and safeguarding corporate history data. My responsibilities also included the legal defense for the company with respect to “Environmental and Mass Tort” civil litigation. As managing attorney, I accomplished my goals and objectives by managing a team of attorneys, paralegals and outside counsel. Although everyone contributed to the “successes” over the years, it was obvious to me that without an effective and efficient paralegal staff, these “successes” would have been compromised.
Tasks performed by the paralegals, included, but were not limited to:
- maintain general client contact
- obtain and organize information, which accumulated from legal investigations
- calendar and track important dates and deadlines
- conduct legal research and draft legal documents
Nevertheless, my first job after graduating law school was as a supervisor in the professional liability division for another major insurance carrier in the late 1980s. I managed staff of claims representatives handling public officials and employment practices liability, police professional liability, and criminal justice system operations liability. Litigation involved civil rights violations, employment practices, and other professional liability-related claims. Clients typically included those entities associated with the criminal court system and included private detention centers, probation services, halfway houses, prisons, and probation services.
