Kathryn Birmingham, Ph.D.
Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Downtown Campus
Dr. Birmingham has over 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector and higher education holding leadership positions in finance, resource development, marketing, board development, public relations and community affairs, program development and evaluation and general management.
As Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences for the Downtown Campus of Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), Kathryn supervises the departments of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education, the Polytechnic Academy, the Learning Center and Library.
Liberal Arts and Science programs include the disciplines of English for Academic Purposes/ESL, English/Speech/Journalism, Literature, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social/Behavioral Sciences, Education and Music/Arts as well as the college prep programs. Workforce A. S. degree programs include Biotechnology, Childcare, and Early Childhood.

Dean Birmingham has resource development, grants management and program design/implementation responsibilities. Recent projects are the Great Neighborhoods Project, Florida Biotech Consortium, Project Renaissance Mentor Program, Life Sciences Think Tank, continuing education courses, English
Language Institute, New Americans Program and National Science Foundation grant proposals.
Dr. Birmingham has developed courses in non-profit management/finance, organizational behavior, human resource management, marketing/public relations, executive management, higher education, K-12 education, communication for business, HIV/AIDS and academic case management. She has taught at St. Johns River Community College, Santa Fe Community College, the University of Florida and Florida Community College.
She holds a doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Business Administration from the University of Florida. Her interests include big game fishing and folk art.
Her leadership/management tip: “Break down silos between departments in your division or campus.”
