Women’s Volleyball

Winter/Spring Update

The FCCJ Volleyball Team has been working out in the weight room since January and twice a week in the gym since February 1. The coaching staff has been busy recruiting and signing players for the next season.

During the winter and spring the team also works on several community service projects. Sunday, February 17, the team worked at hydration station #3 for the Donna Hicken Cancer Marathon. It was an early morning as the players reported to the staging area by 6 a.m. and were working at the station by 7 a.m. Players painted chalk logos on the roads, put out signs, and filled and handed out thousands of cups with water. They also picked up trash all day to keep their area clean and safe. Two of the FCCJ volleyball coaches actually ran in the half marathon. Jose Rivera and Adis Imavovic pushed through the 13.5 miles in great time. Of course they got soaked at hydration station #3 by their own players. In the end, our players commented that the event was very inspiring as well as gratifying.

The team is also scheduled to work the Let Us Play! Foundation Sports Day on Monday, March 31. The team will help 200 young girls from around the city learn basic volleyball skills and the joy of participating in a sport. This event will take place at the UNF arena.

As for spring competition, the team will play host to eight teams for a spring tournament on March 8 starting at 10 a.m. Teams include JU, Flagler, Embry Riddle, Lake Sumter Community College, St. Johns Community College and Gulf Coast Community College as well as two women’s USAV teams. The Stars will also play at Flagler on March 15 and at Florida Southern College in Lakeland on April 5.
