Coach’s Corner

December 12

The Stars earned a victory last night over North Florida Community College with a score of 91-52. This brings the team to a perfect record of 13-0. Top performers were: Tierra McQueen with 33 points and five rebounds; Carrie Harris with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals; and Carrie Harris with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals. The Stars just moved up in the national polls today from 12th to 11th in the nation.

Juco Shootout

December 7

The Stars won last night, beating Palm Beach Community College 64-61 in the Juco Shootout in Gainesville, Fla. Top performers were: Carrie Harris with 24 points, five rebounds and six steals; Takendra Bogan with 11 points and seven rebounds; and Tierra McQueen with 10 points and five rebounds. The team is now 11-0 and ranked twelfth in the nation.

December 8

The Stars ended the weekend at the Juco Shootout with a 94-28 win against Brevard Community College. The top performers were Carrie Harris with 21 points, five assists, seven steals and five rebounds, and Tierra McQueen with 14 points, six assists and six rebounds.

Daytona Beach Classic

November 30 — December 1

The women’s basketball team won both games in the Daytona Beach Classic this weekend. This makes the team 9-0 and still undefeated on the season. The team is ranked 14th in the country and 7th in the state from the last week’s poll.

November 21

The women’s basketball team won last night in a nail-biting performance at Ft. Pierce, Fla., against Indian River Community College with a score of 58 to IRCC’s 55. This brings the Stars to a perfect 7-0 record and a ranking of 16th in the country according to today’s NJCAA poll.

The Stars were led by Carrie Ann Harris with 24 points and eight rebounds, Alice Walton with 12 points and four rebounds, and Takendra Bogan with six points and 14 crucial rebounds.

November 16

Freshman guard Tierra McQueen was the top performer against Tallahassee Community College with 13 points, six steals, six assists and four rebounds.

November 9

Carrie Harris, a freshman guard, was the top scorer against Brewton Parker with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Player of the Week — November 5

Tierra McQueen is this week’s FCCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. McQueen, a freshman guard from Jacksonville, Fla., turned in an impressive performance at the Lady Bengal Classic in Eunice, La., averaging 32.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 3.5 steals during the Stars’ two games – both victories. In her college debut against San Jacinto College, McQueen scored 32 points, hit four three-pointers and was 14 of 16 from the foul line, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals. She followed that with another 32-point performance against host LSU-Eunice in which she connected on six three-pointers and was 12 of 18 from the charity stripe. For the week, McQueen shot 14 of 43 from the floor but hit 40 percent (10 of 25) from beyond the arc and was 26 of 34 (76 percent) from the foul line.

All-Conference Academic Team

Sophomore returnee Rhonda Walker earned a G.P.A. of 3.03 for the second semester of her career at FCCJ. Rhonda graduated from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, FL. She maintained a 3.00 G.P.A. for her entire freshman year. Rhonda is majoring in Sports Management.

Farren Stackhouse was also a recipient for the All-Conference Academic team. Farren signed to play basketball and continue her studies in Clinical Psychology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. In addition to this honor, Farren received Mid-Florida First Team All-Conference and the Academic Award for the 2006-07 season.
