North Campus/Betty P. Cook Nassau Center Goals

The North Campus and Betty P. Cook Nassau Center of Florida Community College at Jacksonville are committed to student success. Our commitment is expressed through goals that address the learning environment, learning outcomes, partnerships with our communities of interest, services, and service providers.

Goal One
Provide high quality teaching and learning supported by an aesthetically pleasing and technology based instructional environment
The staff, faculty, students, and business partners will assess, document, and prioritize campus needs and develop a master plan to create a 21st century hands on learning environment.

  • Upgrade all classrooms with smart technology
  • Perform full assessment to document and prioritize campus needs
  • Expand academic program delivery options through the use of technology
  • Promote, integrate, and increase utilization of Career Development Center services
  • Add art in the hallways and classrooms
  • Continue to implement campus facilities master plan including:
      • Grounds revitalization
      • New Academic Health Center
      • Library/Learning Center Enhancements
      • Additional space for Criminal Justice Center
      • ADA upgrades
      • “Curb” appeal

Goal Two
Create a quality service oriented environment
Create a campus culture that fosters mutual respect and commitment to excellence. Provide services that facilitate, support, and promote students' access to information, campus life, and the necessary tools for success.

  • Perform full assessment to document current services to students
  • Survey students to determine services desired
  • Obtain feedback from customers through feedback surveys
  • Meet and exceed our enrollment targets
  • Redesign the new student orientation to better integrate the resources in the Assessment and Certification Center and the Career Development Center
  • Increase student organization activities and events at the Betty P. Cook Nassau Center
  • Develop and implement a Campus Ombudsperson concept
  • Develop a formal automatic referral and counseling process for students not admitted into restricted admission programs to increase retention and to educate students about other programs that they may not have considered 
  • Increase student, faculty and campus connections
  • Provide professional development workshops for all employees

Goal Three
Expand current programs and add new programs
Utilize environmental scanning, advisory committees, labor department " hot occupations" list, program assessments, and business partners to maintain current curricula and to meet demand for new programs.

  • Identify and assess capacity of current program offerings and identify growth and expansion opportunities to meet market demand
  • Identify and plan for new programs to diversify campus and Nassau Center offerings (CWE, entrepreneurial, pre-college)
    • Revise/update Program Planning Priorities list yearly
  • Maintain campus workforce programs improvement plan
  • Develop and implement a 3 year plan to increase CWE FTE and enrollment by 150%
  • Assess and enhance student retention strategies
  • Sustain active and involved Advisory Committees
  • Recruit and maintain a listing of qualified adjunct faculty
  • Identify potential satellite centers to expand course and program offerings (i.e. River City Market Place Mall, Kings Bay, etc.)
  • Implement Enrollment Development Plans
  • Implement Outreach Plan

Goal Four
Establish partnerships with our Communities of Interest
Opportunities will be sought to cultivate and nurture partnerships internally and externally.

  • Meet with select businesses to explore educational needs of employees and respond quickly with ways that North/Nassau can meet those needs
  • Partner with the Chamber of Commerce, EDEN, Northside Civic Association, Northside Business Leaders Club, North Jacksonville Community Advisory Panel & other business and professional associations
  • Identify specific programs for potential articulation with other educational institutions
  • Identify and develop entrepreneurial initiatives
  • Hold bi-annual meetings of the Communities of Interest Advisory Board
  • Implement Outreach Plan

Goal Five
Initiate employee directed teams to plan training and development opportunities
Promote an environment where valued employees are recognized for their contributions and are encouraged to develop personally and professionally.

  • Continue to assess employees skills and promote professional development opportunities
  • Provide incentives and rewards for excellence
  • Continue supporting the collegewide and campus-based incentives and awards for excellence
  • Continue to provide opportunities for informal and formal employee communication
  • Continue to recommend North Campus/Nassau Center employees to serve on campus/collegewide councils ad task forces
  • Implement annual customer service workshops

Goal Six
Increase visability and access for the North Campus and Betty P. Cook Nassau Center

Explore the many avenues to increase awareness of campus programs and services available to Duval and Nassau counties.

  • Continue to refine, update and implement the campus outreach plan to make North Campus and the Betty P. Cook Center more visible to the community
  • Develop and promote a campus Speakers Bureau utilizing campus employees who will speak on their areas of expertise to schools and community groups
  • Create a stronger presence for North Campus and Nassau Center on main transportation routes adjacent to campus using signage, billboards, welcome center, etc.
  • Continue to assess and improve on campus signage
  • Develop system for the ongoing distribution of campus program materials in the community
  • Continue to implement summer camps, special events, and other activities in response to community needs and interests
  • Publish a community newsletter two times a year
  • Continue to expand and refine websites for North Campus/Nassau Center faculty, departments, and programs.  Include web table templates for each academic selective admission programs listing number of program starts per year, dates, application deadlines and other information specific to the particular programs 

Goal Seven
Enhance campus based performance& accountability
Establish ongoing processes to determine performance effectiveness campus-wide.

  • Develop an annual report highlighting achievements
  • Create opportunities for collaboration on process improvement projects among internal departmental teams
  • Systematize the process of collecting feedback from graduates, employers, and advisory committee members
