3 + 1 Programs

If you would like to take as many of your bachelors degree courses at the low Florida Community College tuition rate as possible, this type of agreement might be helpful to you. 

A 3 + 1 agreement maximizes a student's time at Florida Community College.  Students who earn an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree can satisfy the first two years of coursework associated with the university's baccalaureate degree programs and will be recognized as having achieved junior status.  Twelve to 30 additional credits are is also completed at Florida Community College, so that the student only completes the senior year (approximately 30 to 45 credit hours) at the university.  The additional coursework can be completed at the Florida Community College tuition rate.  Typically the university accepts transfer credits for all of the coursework, up to a maximum of 90 semester hours toward fulfillment of university core requirements and toward the university degree requirements.

If you are interested in transferring into a specific major, first select the major and then choose the college/university that offers your selected major.  When you click on the major, you will find out some basic information about the requirements for transfer, including the coursework and major prerequisites. Clicking on the college/university will take you to the institution's web site.

If you would like to participate in the 3 + 1 program, please follow these steps:

1. Meet with your FCCJ advisor or counselor (see list of those working with 3 + 1 programs)
2. Review the Transfer Advising Sheet(s) (see below);
3. Ask your FCCJ advisor or counselor to add the 3 + 1 Program of Study Code (31XXX) and Major Code (6 digits) for the specific university that you plan to pursue (This should be added as your primary program objective if you have already completed your associates degree. If you have not completed your associates degree yet, this should be added as your secondary program objective);
4. Apply to the 3 + 1 partner institution (see list below) in the specific 3 + 1 major (the B.S., B.A., or BAE indicated below). The student should indicate on the application that they are pursuing the 3 + 1 articulation between FCCJ and XX university;
5. Once you are admitted to the partner university, confirm the list of approved classes that the university would like you to take at FCCJ (if the university has specified a list of courses for your major, you should find a list of those courses at the links below, but we recommend that you confirm that list with an advisor from the partner university);
6. Start registering, paying, and enrolling for FCCJ classes.
7. Send your transcript periodically to the partner university and contact your university advisor to make sure you are taking the correct courses each semester.

If you are seeking financial aid for the additional coursework, please complete the following steps:

1. Complete steps #1-#4 in the list above.
2. Apply for financial aid at the partner university. *
3. Once you are admitted at the partner university, seek approval from the university to become a concurrently enrolled student at FCCJ. The university financial aid staff will contact FCCJ financial aid staff to utilize a financial aid consortium agreement to provide financial aid (pending your eligibility).
4. Contact the university’s advising or financial aid staff to find out if they have approved your concurrent enrollment.
5. Continue with #5-#7 in the list above. We suggest that you pay for the FCCJ classes (that were approved for your additional 3 + 1 coursework beyond the associates degree) so that your classes are not dropped from your schedule for non-payment.  Your financial aid (if approved for aid) from the 3 + 1 partner institution may not arrive in time to meet FCCJ’s payment deadline.

*Northcentral University does not offer standard Title IV financial aid. NCU offers students the option to participate in payment plans and assistance in seeking loans. Therefore students participating in the 3 + 1 program with FCCJ and NCU would be responsible for paying for the additional semester hours at FCCJ (beyond the associates degree).

Tips on transferring to a college without an articulation agreement

Florida Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) so many of Florida Community College courses should transfer to colleges and universities across the United States.  However, it is up to each individual school to decide what courses they will and won't accept, especially if you transfer to a school outside of the state of Florida.  If you are interested in transferring to an institution that Florida Community College does not have an articulation agreement with , the first step would be to contact that school.  The Admissions or Registrar staff should be able to tell you about their transfer policy.  They may ask to see a copy of Florida Community College's course descriptions to get an idea about the course.  Florida Community College's catalog is available on-line so the school can easily reference course information.  Once you complete the courses you would need to request an official copy of your Florida Community College transcript.

Tuition Discounts

• Capella University - This university offers a 10% discount to Florida Community College employees. The 10% discount extends to full time and part time Florida Community College employees and is awarded to all Florida Community College faculty, staff, alumni, regardless of degree (bachelors, masters, doctorate).  The discount applies to all courses in the degree program.
• Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education - This university offers Florida Community College staff, faculty and administrators a tuition grant of 15% for any of their Master’s, Educational Specialist and Doctoral Programs.
• Nova Southeastern University Fischler School of Education - This university also offers Florida Community College students that graduate with an A.A. degree in education and follow one of the articulation agreements for Elementary Education or Exceptional Student Education for 2 +  2 programs, a tuition grant of 15% upon entering either of the above programs
• Franklin University - This university offers a free Online Learning Strategies course to Florida Community College employees.
• Northcentral University - This university offers a 10% discount to Florida Community College employees and recent graduates.
• Regis University - This university offers a 10% discount to full-time Florida Community College employees.
