Project Renaissance

Implementation Timeline

The project will implement many of the strategies recommended by O’Banion (1997) for college preparatory students. Beginning in the first year, faculty and staff will participate in professional development activities related to assessment strategies, effective learning strategies, and retention strategies that are effective with college preparatory students. Throughout the project, the College will systematically implement reforms in assessment, curriculum, and student support services. During the first year, the College will establish a multipurpose space to encourage student-to-staff, student-to-faculty, and student-to-student interaction. Each year courses will be redesigned to incorporate technology, learning styles theory, and best practices in college preparatory courses until all seven college preparatory courses have been redesigned. The curriculum of student life skills, orientation, and selected college-level courses will also be redesigned. The timeline is sufficient to obtain necessary approvals, pilot revised courses, evaluate course effectiveness, and modify courses as necessary. Funding for released time and stipends will ensure that faculty are able to complete the training and tasks required to complete the rigorous curriculum change. The project also ensures that the computer laboratories are properly equipped with learning software, especially for mathematics students and students with disabilities. The following table depicts the overall activity implementation timeline.
