Project Renaissance

Outcome-Based Curriculum Development

The Title III Grant at Florida Community College charges the Project Renaissance office with conducting an outcome-based assessment of the college preparatory curriculums.  The process began in the summer of 2003 with the evaluation and update of the math preparatory courses.

On April 20, 2006, the college-wide curriculum committee approved the curriculum changes to the college prep reading and English outlines.  This was the last step in completing the outcome-based assessment and updates of the college prep curriculums as part of the Title III grant.

A big thank you to all of the English and Reading faculty members who participated in the process.

On February 10th the Reading and English faculty met and made final revisions to the course outlines (see below). Each English and Reading faculty approved the updates (via email vote).

Reading

In October 2005, the reading faculty met and began preliminary work on the curriculum evaluation and update of REA 0006, REA 0008 and REA 0010.

On December 9, 2005, the reading faculty met to hear reports from the faculty review teams.

Sheila Kerr (Professor of Reading – Kent Campus) and Patti Levine-Brown (Professor of Reading – Kent Campus) reported on the “National College Preparatory Reading Standards and Practices”.  This report is available here:

Nancy Banks (Professor of Reading – South Campus) and Suzanne Hughes  (Professor of Reading – South Campus) presented on “College Preparatory Reading Instructional Materials".  Their reports are available here:

The next curriculum meeting of the reading faculty will be January 13, 2006.  At this working meeting, a draft of the new curriculum will be generated.  Look for the updated curriculum to be available on this web page after the meeting.

English

Math

Nancy Eschen (Professor of Mathematics – South Campus), Rudy Radulovich (Professor of Mathematics – Kent Campus) and Donna Martin (Professor of Mathematics – North Campus) formed a faculty review team and worked over the summer of 2004 to research college preparatory math curriculum standards and update the prep math courses.  The updated curriculums (approved by the college curriculum committee in May 2005) are available below:
