General Education Assessment Project

The State of Florida Department of Education has recommended that post-secondary institutions collect information regarding the efficacy of their respective general education programs.  The methodology used to collect this data has not been dictated by the legislature. Thus, the General Education Assessment (GEA) Task Force was assembled by the General Education Requirements Subcommittee of the College Curriculum Committee in order to achieve the following:

What's New

  • Faculty Needed for Pilot Program. We need more participants for our curriculum-embedded pilot project in communication. You can find the full details here [insert hyperlink to document] in the Pilot Proposal Guidelines, but this is the short version: if you have a written assignment (250-500 words) or an oral presentation assignment (3-5 minutes) in your class, we are asking that you consider including the work submitted to you in this pilot program. This pilot project is very important, and the demands on your time should be minimal. Please, if you have any work in your courses that looks like it might fit these guidelines, contact Youlanda Henry so that she can give you more details about the pilot program. Deadline: January 16th.
  • Rubric Feedback Sought. The window to provide feedback on the rubrics that will guide our assessment of critical thinking, quantitative skills, information literacy, and socio-cultural responsibility will close on January 23rd. Once completed, these rubrics will have real implications for how we assess (and, ultimately, teach) these areas of General Education. Please, pick a topic area that is of interest to you, take a look at the rubric for that area, and provide your feedback. To view and work on these rubrics, you will have to self-enroll in our Assessment Community on Blackboard. To do this:

    1. Log on to Blackboard
    2. Click on Community Tab
    3. Click on Faculty under Organization Catalog.
    4. Notice Assessment Community and click on Enroll (far to the right)
    5. On the Self-enroll screen, click Submit. You should receive a Receipt: Success message next.
    6. Assessment Community should now be available to you on the Community Tab in My Organizations
