The Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning
is a faculty-driven body dedicated to promoting, facilitating and honoring
the enhancement of teaching and learning throughout the Florida Community College
community.

Objectives
Promote the professional development of both full-time and part-time faculty to use instructional strategies that engage student learning and enhance student success.
Support faculty-initiated research, innovative teaching techniques, the development of educational materials, and the use of instructional technology.
Actively market and promote teaching and learning activities college-wide, thereby making CATL visible and accessible to all faculty.
Explore and disseminate new initiatives in higher education that influence teaching and learning.
Honor excellence in teaching.

The Center for the
Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) remains strong in pursuing
its mission of promoting, facilitating and honoring the enhancement
of teaching and learning. This year’s Steering Committee
is comprised of nine faculty members:

Now in its 19th year, the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) remains strong in pursuing its mission of promoting, facilitating and honoring enhancement of teaching and learning. The Center’s primary programs include the Outstanding Faculty and Endowed Chair Awards, New Faculty Institute, New Faculty Mentoring, Master Teacher Seminar, campus-based Faculty Resource mentors, weekly campus-based and college-wide seminars and workshops, mini-grant program, and – through the Southeastern Center for Cooperative Learning – cooperative learning seminars.
CATL has also been active in co-sponsoring both the Online Professor Certificate Program with participation by Center members in both the Capstone event and Creating Optimum Learning Environments course for faculty enrolled in the program and the Online Course Development project, now in Phase III. The chair of CATL serves on the International Conference Committee and plans are being finalized for the 19th International Conference.
