Adult Education

If you are interested in getting your general educational development (GED) diploma, consider taking GED classes at our beautiful Kent Campus college environment or at our new Cecil Center.

Kent Campus is located on Roosevelt Boulevard and is convenient to restaurants, shopping and easily accessible bus transportation.

Cecil Center is located on Normandy Boulevard, which is convenient to Oakleaf Plantation, Maxville, Baldwin and Middleburg.

Both campuses are user-friendly and you will find the staff and faculty courteous and helpful. We care about you, your educational goals and your career goals as you enter the workforce.

General Educational Development (GED) Classes - CLASSES ARE FREE!

We have just what you need to prepare for the state GED test. We serve students ranging in age from 16 to 116! Students come from all walks of life, bringing with them a diversity of cultures, needs and goals. Our classes are self-paced with independent study: you work at your own pace around your job schedule, children’s school activities or whatever personal things you have going on in your life. We offer day, evening and weekend classes to meet your individual needs.

Before you enter our program, you must take an entry test; however, it is not a pass or fail exam, it simply tells us what grade level you have mastered in reading, writing and math. It also helps us identify where you need help. This test is called the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). After you complete the TABE, you will attend an orientation to familiarize you with our program and our campus. You will then register for the appropriate classes according to your TABE scores. Classes are listed below:

Adult Basic Education (ABE) - CLASSES ARE FREE!

At Kent Campus we offer pre-GED classes that are referred to as adult basic education (ABE). If your TABE scores are below 9.0, you will be required to take the pre-GED classes to bring your skills up to 9.0.

  • Our GOAL is to move you into GED classes or VPI (Vocational Preparatory Classes).

General Educational Development (GED)

If you scored above 9.0 on the TABE, you are eligible to take GED classes. When you have mastered all five categories and your instructor feels you are ready, then you may register to take the GED test.

After successful completion of the GED test, we hope you will choose a program or course that Florida Community College offers in order to enhance and further your education. We offer a variety of programs! TABE score requirements are listed for the Workforce Credit Certificate Programs

  • Our GOAL is to move you into college transfer classes or professional vocational classes.

Vocational Preparatory Instruction (VPI)

This program will help you improve your basic academic skills so as to prepare you for the many vocational programs offered at Florida Community College. Note: If you have a high school diploma, there may be a charge for VPI classes.

  • Our GOAL is to move you into the vocational training program of your choice.

Whatever class you take, the adult education department at Kent Campus and Cecil Center are dedicated to helping you achieve your educational goals and aspirations. This is a wonderful opportunity to take GED classes at NO COST to you! Let us help you fulfill your educational dreams in a setting that is different from any other.
