How can you improve your grades and academic performance? Review each of the following for more information.
- Take responsibility for your actions. Accept that you need to make changes in your behavior, study habits, goals, and expectations. The sooner you can do this, the sooner you will be back on track to completing your degree program.
- Take advantage of grade forgiveness. Grade forgiveness occurs when you retake a class in which you earned a D or F grade. This means the failing grade is not counted in your GPA because the new grade has replaced it. You must retake the exact same course for grade forgiveness to work. For example, let's say your GPA is 1.80 and you have completed 22 hours so far. If you retake a 3 credit course and pass it with an A, your GPA will rise to 2.064.
- To calculate your GPA, use the GPA calculator on the right sidebar under More Resources.
- Meet with an advisor and ask for help in creating an Academic Plan. An Academic Plan can help you see how many classes are required for your degree, when you might take them and which classes are good combinations to take. To look at a sample Academic Plan, click on the link on the right sidebar under Handouts. Click Open when prompted. When you are finished with the file, click the x or close box in the upper right corner to return to this lesson.
