Do I have to take the entire GED test at one time?
Although most students do register for the complete GED test, some students prefer to work on one or two subjects at a time. The GED student should discuss with their instructor which plan best meets their needs. If a student takes part of the test and passes it, they will not have to retake that part when completing their examination.

How will I know if I am ready to take the GED examination?
By taking GED Review classes a student can best assess their readiness for the actual GED examination. Instructors can send students to take the Official Practice GED examination which covers all five parts of the GED curriculum. Students who achieve scores higher than 500 on parts of the practice test are encouraged to sign up for the examination in those areas. Students scoring below that level may require additional study. The GED instructor will assist students in working on areas where they need instruction.

How do I get financial aid or scholarship money?
Financial aid is only available to students enrolled in college courses. However, there are several scholarships available to adult studies students.

Can I enroll in college courses while I’m taking courses in Adult Ed?
A high school diploma is not required for enrollment in most continuing workforce education courses, but students must be at least 16 years old and meet entry level requirements.

How long do the classes last?
Florida State College at Jacksonville offers eight week and 16 week semesters, depending on the schedule that you choose. Since our program is self-paced, each student completes classes at different times. You may take as long as you need to get your skills ready to take the GED exam.

When are the classes offered and how often?
Classes are offered Monday through Saturday. (morning, afternoon and evening.) Evening classes are from 5–9 p.m. and Saturday classes are from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

If I enroll in the Adult Studies Program, am I considered to be a Florida State College at Jacksonville student?
Yes. You are entitled to any Florida State College at Jacksonville student benefits and are considered a Florida State College at Jacksonville student.

If you do not have a high school or GED diploma and are interested in taking a college course, you may enroll under Limited Special Admission status. You may enroll in no more than 12 hours of college credit coursework (if under 18, with parental consent). Students enrolling under this provision must be qualified for college level coursework by assessment and are responsible for all tuition and fees.
